  1. Try to burn off some of their energy. Take a long walk or run. Play a game of fetch or their favorite game.
  2. Treats and toys will help the dog feel more comfortable. Don’t forget to have some water for them.
  3. Be patient and creative. Not all dogs are well trained or behaved.
  4. Try different angles, get down to their level. Zoom in them.
  5. “Focus on the eyes as a good rule of thumb.” Whiskers and noses can be creative points of focus.
  6. Use props. A favorite toy can make open up opportunities for cute poses.
  7. Take your photographs somewhere your dog is comfortable, out in the yard, the park, in an open field. What excites your dog?
  8. Zoom into your dog instead of getting closer. Try using a burst mode to take a rapid succession of photographs.
  9. Use a high shutter speed to capture motion. Also, use burst mode to take a rapid succession of photographs.
  10. Watch your lighting. The same rules or guidelines for taking any photo applies here.
  11. Smartphones work great at taking wonderful photographs, it is really the lighting that makes a difference.
  12. Try to reduce camera shake. Take several shots you can select the best ones later.
