Description: Cleo is a loving and very energetic dog. She loves to play and is house-trained. she learns quickly. She loves all the attention, she gets along with other dogs.

Cleo is a 2.5-year-old 62 lb black lab/pit mix who was rescued from Walton County rural GA shelter in August 2018. We knew nothing about her past, however, she was picked up as a stray on a rural dirt road pregnant and alone and scared.

She was very pregnant and on her last day before being killed, a rescue took her in. That weekend, she delivered 8 beautiful sweet puppies who looked just like her. She spent the next three months in a Barn like setting nursing and being a mommy. She was a loving and protecting mommy and she did a wonderful job. All the puppies were adopted of course and there Cleo sat waiting. She then was fully vetted and ready for a new life.

Being in that barn was not working for her of course so she was moved to a dog daycare in January 2019, where she did pretty well but she ended up there too long of course as no one wants a black lab pit in the south. She decided that the daycare was her home and had some struggles with some of the other dogs there as they would get in her face. Being in a loud daycare was too much for her.

She needed to be moved again. After begging for a home or a foster, a wonderful friend stepped up to help out temporarily. Fast forward – Cleo was introduced to my friend and her dog and they did well together and she took her in. Cleo had the run of the house, learned some manners, was walked a lot, and played all day long with her small male dog. She was so happy with a “person” and cuddling in bed at night was her favorite thing to do. She really needs a family and stability and ground rules.

My foster had to give her up as her family dynamics changed so Cleo was moved once again to another barn-type kennel setting as that was all we had. No foster – no home once again. She has been in this setting since June 1, 2019. She does not get out much and gets very little socialization. The stress of this Has certainly taken its toll. We had taken her to many adoption events and She does not do well in a cage with people poking at her and didn’t show well at events so she has been waiting since mid-summer.

She has been working with our trainer and has been doing well.

Cleo is a really loving and strong girl who would do well with basic training. She can be dog selective but is good with a lot of dogs just depends on the dog. She is strong so little children in the home probably would not be best for her. She does better with dogs who are not Alpha. She is so desperate for love and a person, you can see in her eyes how anxious she is. She has gone downhill with all the moving and lack of stability she has had. She is such a great dog and with some refinement, she will make a really great family member. My heart breaks for her every day as, like all dogs, she deserves so much more. She would do well with a person who is not gone all day, Lots of attention and exercise, and a fenced yard with a playful dog she has been introduced to ahead of time. She loves to play, give kisses, and cuddle.

She is fully vetted, spayed, healthy, heartworm negative, chipped, and on preventions monthly.
