Dogs Barking
We have been on both sides of the fence on the issue of dog barking. Complaining to ourselves about neighbors dogs barking and select neighbors complaining about our dogs barking. We caught one neighbor telling his kids to tease our dogs to make them bark so he could record them and file a complaint. The joke was on him, as soon as the police officer saw our video of him getting kids to pester our dogs the situation was put to an end. We do not know what the police officer told our neighbor but the complaints stopped. We try to bring in our dogs when we hear them bark, but one neighbor would call us every time one of our dogs barked even just one time. I nicknamed him Mr. Cranky Pants. In that situation our other neighbor was an officer for Animal Control in the city we lived in and never said anything to us about our dogs barking.
Dogs bark, it is what they do. Even we get a little annoyed at other dogs excessively barking. What do we do about keeping our dogs from being a nuisance when barking?
We usually do not leave our dogs outside for any length of time. When we do, as soon as we hear them barking we bring them inside the house. Fortunately we do not live in an apartment and the homes we lived in were far enough away from the neighbors that when inside the dogs barking does not bother anybody. We have discussed getting bark collars in the past. Bark collars come a few different styles; spray, sound and vibration, and shock, each have their pro’s and con’s. We do not have any experience with them.

What can we do about other dogs being a nuisance when barking? As pointed out in Petcube’s blog How to Stop a Dog From Barking. There is not a lot we can do other than just talking to your neighbor. They may not even know their dog is being a nuisance. Try to be friendly and helpful when you talk to them.
