Why I Hate Rescuing Dogs!
I have more dogs in my life than the typical person. They come and go as they transition from their past situation to their forever homes. The length of time they spend in our home varies from one dog to the next. Some of them we completely fall in love with and wish we could keep them! But, we can not keep them all!
On occasion my wife and I will become emotional after adopting a dog. Now I am not going to admit to crying, but our eyes were leaking, at least a little bit.
Ella is a special girl! I was beginning to think she was going to stay with us for the rest of her life. Which was fine with us. She did come with a pre-existing condition, hip dysplasia and she was very anxious.
She is a princess, always crossing her legs when she would lay down. She always had to be in the same room as us. When she was out in the yard she had two speeds; stop and full speed! You would have never guessed she had hip problems
One fateful day the unexpected happen, she had an inquiry. Her prospective new family just fell in love with her and her story. Ella took to them from the beginning and they accepted her with bad hips and all. My wife and I both were an emotional mess all the way home. I will not admit it, but both of our eyes were leaking a little water.
Sarge lived with us for a short time. He had a wonderful personality. Despite being a “yard dog” chained up most of his prior life. He was extremely people friendly and loved attention from anyone willing to pay him some attention.
He had dozens of inquiry’s on him. His adoption will be, at least for me, our most memorable adoption thus far. Even though he and his new family were a perfect match, we still miss him.
Watching Sarge and his soon to be new dad bonding with each other during the meet and greet was very heart warming. Both my wife and I felt they were meant to be together and are now inseparable.
I miss his bright attitude and soft fur.
Teegan aka Ursula, our daughter nickname her that when she picked her up from the pound for us.
As long as you weren’t a small furry animal Teegan was a sweetheart to. She rarely barked. She loved everyone and was pretty calm. She was a little older than most dogs we get. I think that is why she lived with us for so long.
For the longest time she did not receive any inquiry’s except the occasional one or two every once in awhile. Then last week within just a few days she had four people interested in her.
We took her to meet her prospective new family. She took to them right away, it was like she knew them already. It was another quiet emotional ride home.
So I hate rescuing dogs, because saying goodbye can be so hard to do! Now with that said, the adoptions that stand out from all the others such as Sarge’s and Teegan’s really makes all the goodbyes worth the occasional emotional stress around saying goodbye.
