My boys, Scott and Brian, and I where out camping and offroading with my Jeep. This was when we lived in San Diego California. Therefore early spring the top and doors came off the Jeep and were put into the garage.
Angel loved riding in the Jeep, most of the time. When the trails got too rough she would get anxious, so she would get out and walk. Really we would put her out or one of the boys would hold on to her. We also kept a short leash attached to the roll bar so she would not fall out.
Now back to the camping trip. We happened upon a fire lookout tower back in the National Forest. This lookout had been decommissioned and was now rented out as a summer cabin. The current tenant was outside so we ask if we could come up and look around. He invited us up and gave us brief tour, the views were great up there.
Now being polite we left Angel in the Jeep with the leash on. She was patiently sitting in the driver’s seat waiting for us to return. We had finished the brief tour and were just visiting with the tenant when we hear the Jeep’s horn beep twice, “BEEP BEEP”. We look down at the Jeep and there is Angel standing in the driver’s seat one paw on the steering wheel and the other paw on the horn button. Just like she knew what she was doing and telling us to hurry up, let’s go!
Angel is gone now, but she will never be forgotten. She lived a long and happy life. We were blessed to have her in our lives.

P.S. Angel was with us for 17 years before she passed on. She had her annoying habits, we later learned were a trait of her breed, but to us she was the best dog in the world!
