YouTube is a wonderful resource for the dog owner. You have to be careful which rabbit hole you follow. Just because it is on the Internet does not make it true. Everybody has their opinions and some even have agendas. Every method I have seen demonstrated, either on T.V. or online is successful, as far as we can see. Some of the television shows have brought celebrity status to the host. But, do they show us the failures of those methods?
While there are several different training methods, one link lists seven. They can be lumped together into three basic methods, generally speaking. Probably the oldest method is the Traditional Dominance Training. The next method would be Positive Reinforcement Training. The third is a combination of all the good parts of the other methods, the best of both worlds. What I have heard is called a Balanced Training Method. I first heard of Balanced Training on this YouTube channel Solid K9 Training or at this website Solid K9 Training Jeff is very passionate about dogs, his language at times is just a little rough, not real bad just rough. He describes the Balanced Method as being 90% positive and 10% corrective.
I like what has been said by many trainers, the dog owner needs training as much or more than the dog. Not in those words but the meaning is there. I hope you find the links helpful and as for me I am going for the Balanced Training Method. Tell me what you think, which method you use.
